Blogpost #5 Classic.

A Classic, what is it? A classic is usually a book that sets the new standard for all other books. It can withstand the test of time, and will be enjoyed by future generations. But what qualities does a good story have? Characters, set, plot, subject. The characters have to be life-like, and the reader has to be able to relate to the characters in some way or another. Why would I want to read a story about an emotionless ant? The set needs to be described in a way that can let the reader picture and feel, and be there with the character. If you wrote "and he walked into the spaceship," but didn't describe it, I'd be depressed because i spent $10 on the book. The plot needs to be interesting, smooth, and not impossible to follow. The subject needs to be something that everyone would be interested in. I'd rather read a book like The War Of The Worlds even though it's from 1898, than a book about keyboards.
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix is a classic, just like all the Harry Potter books. It's got such real characters, a framiliar, and creative setting, an interesting, and addictive plot. The books characters are people (fictional) that you can relate to, you know how they're feel, whether you've felt that way or not. The setting, Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, is one that readers know well, and can picture again and again, (which they do, if they've read the series), and to me, (and I am constantly re-reading the Harry Potter series) Hogwarts feels like a home. The plot of Harry Potter, touches on the subject that has interested many people throught time; magic. The plot follows the teenage wizard Harry Potter, as he starts his fifth year at Hogwarts, this year though, he is thought of as a liar, seeking attention. Mainly, because Lord Voldemort returned to life, and Harry was the only witness, but the Minster of Magic, Cornelius Fudge, denies Harry's story and now the wizarding worl just sees him as a liar. The plot becomes one that you don't want to put down, and you'll have your nose in the book until you're finished it. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix is, in every way, a classic.

  1. I agree with almost everything in this post, and it was well formatted and explained, but brief. Great job. The one thing that I'd have to debate would be the characteristics. All of those would make a good book, but some magnificant books aren't classics. So I think longevity would have to be another.

  2. Great job on this blog post! I did notice a few grammar errors such as, i instead of I and got instead of has. I like the way you organized this post. A recommendation would be to add a picture of the novel or something mentioned in this post just as a visual for the reader. Overall well done! I enjoyed reading this post :)
